NEW EP, “SURVIVAL SKILLS”
The five-song debut from keyboardist Jason Garcia and singer Brit Woods, released Sept. 16. may seem like dance-ready synth-pop on the surface. But there’s a lot happening in these lyrics, with songs that address momentous events including the Jan. 6 insurrection and the 2021 Texas winter storm. Garcia, who shares vocals duties on the EP with Woods, has been playing in both original and cover bands around Austin for years, but this is the most fully realized music he’s made to date.

Jason Garcia and Brit Woods are Jason & Brit, a synth pop duo from Austin, Texas. Their latest EP, Survival Skills, features male-female vocal interplay set against melodic keyboards and catchy beats that recall the best of 80s synthpop. Lyrically, the EP's 5 songs touch on everything from Biden's inauguration to January 6 to the Texas winter storm to distancing during the pandemic. Jason says, "A lot has happened these past two-plus years, and we've all had kind of these shared experiences around it. I liked the title because I feel like people have had to suddenly develop a lot of coping skills." The EP was produced by the band and mixed by Jason Garcia with recording help from longtime friend and producer Don Cento, and mastered by Max Lorenzen.
The live band now includes Jason Sale on guitar and Drew Silverman on drums.
